These bookshelves could either stand on a piece of furniture or be mounted on a wall. With their combination of plain lattice work and curved and chamfered top and sides, they are typical of designs by Sidney Barnsley and Ernest Gimson.

According to Waals’s workshop record book this piece was commissioned by W A Evans and cost £7.10.0 in July 1920.
