Oak chest 2.1969

Oak chest 2.1969
Small hall chest, about 1902-06
Designed by Ernest Gimson and made in his Daneway workshop.

Oak with wrought iron hinges
61.76 x 31.1cm

The cut-out design on the legs includes a heart shape. Gimson occasionally used this popular Arts and Crafts motif but in a very subtle way (see also M1 and M4). The lines of bold gouges down the sides of the chest fall are typical of his early work.

Presented by Mrs M Peach, Harry Peach’s widow, in 1969
